The Swann Legacy, Ch.1: Juliette Swann
Juliette Swann wanted more out of life than to be the daughter to a rich French Ambassador. This artistic, young woman wanted to make it on her own by selling her art. As a young girl, she proved to be very talented at painting and she wanted that to be her chosen profession. While she had nothing against being a housewife, like her mother, she yearned for more.
Just as she passed from the teen years into young adult-hood, Juliette's Great Aunt passed away. Great Auntie Victorie left her only niece a plot of land in Sunset Valley and $1800. While she mourned her Aunt, hope flared within young Juliette. Young and naive, she packed only the essential items. With only the bag on her back, Juliette fled France. Leaving behind her homeland, her parents, and everything she's ever known....Juliette was free for the first time in her life.
Little did she realize that the money her Aunt left her wasn't much to build with on an empty plot of land. At least the view made up for it.

With this little hut that holds a bed and a lantern, a path with an art easel, and a pond...the story of Juliette begins.
As I've mentioned, Juliette is smart. She's more of a genius actually. It didn't take her long to realize that she didn't want to run home to mommy and daddy to hear their "I told you so's", so she made a plan. Obviously she couldn't make a living off of painting immediately, she needed to put down roots in the community first. So with the $48 left in her pocket, she hailed a cab to the town center.
Once there, she found a gym. Being an athletic woman, she felt immediately at home there. She met a lot of interesting people and began building some friendships. While listening to the neighborhood gossip, she heard there was a job opening at the local school. Although she had never taught before, Juliette held all the credentials needed to do so. The more she thought of it, the more she realized it was perfect.
Working at a school would mean regular work days, Monday through Friday and weekends off. This would allow her to make money with steady work, while painting during the weekends to bring in extra income. Juliette decided then and there that the next place she needed to head to was the school. Luckily it was only across the street.

Juliette decided then and there that the next place she needed to head to was the school. Luckily it was only across the street.
It didn't take long for Juliette to run over to the school and set up an immediate interview. The school seemed very interested in having her come to work there, almost desperate in fact, and she left with a job. Success!!! Next stop was to head back to the gym.
While talking to the patrons earlier, they learned that she had no bathroom or kitchen and told her she could make use of the facilities there. Since Juliette was to start work at the school the following day, she knew she needed to make use of what the gym offered.

After getting cleaned up and having a good meal, Juliette came to the conclusion that she could make it here. If she saved up her money from her job, visited the gym every day after work, and slowly added to her small hut....she could actually make it! Thus the decision was made, Juliette would never go back home (except to visit, of course). She was determined to build a nice life for herself in her new home, Sunset Valley.
And that was how her life went, as the days became weeks and the weeks turned into a year. Juliette worked hard at the school every day, then painted like crazy every weekend. She slowly built up a collection of paintings that she consigned at the consignment store in town. Making a good amount of money allowed Juliette to make small additions to her home and treat herself out to a night with friends once a week.

While she was finally able to buy a fridge and then a toilet, Juliette still only had one room. She was okay with that though, as she had made some really great friends and could bunk at their places often throughout the week. It also worked better because it was closer to work for her.
After getting her yearly review, Juliette was graced with a promotion. With the promotion came a bonus and a permanent raise. With that money in her pocket, Juliette had enough to finally add a bathroom to her small hut. Now that she actually had two full rooms to her house and a table, Juliette didn't mind being there so often on the weekends. She still made it a point to go to every party she was invited too. After all, she didn't want to loose contact with her friends.

After a couple more promotions at work and following the same old routine, Juliette was starting to feel lonely. She spoke with her parents occasionally, but feared they would never forgive her for leaving like she did. All of her friends had begun relationships and were getting married. Juliette herself was getting a bit older, not middle aged or anything, but older.
It was one weekend at a friends party, that Juliette saw him. He had the warmest brown eyes, a good build, and was very down to earth. She could appreciate that in a man and so when he asked her out, Juliette said yes.

Juliette loved going out with Connor Frio. He treated her with respect, had a great sense of humor, and his kisses made her curl her toes. She let her painting slide a bit, because she began spending her weekends with him. They took long walks on the beach, would go out to dinner, and visit the karaoke bars together.
Connor didn't like crowds, but he put up with them so they could have a nice time when they went out. Being a journalist, Connor made a decent amount of money. It wasn't long before he was thinking of wedding bells. Juliette had her reservations though. She wanted to stay living on the land her Aunt left her, but there wasn't enough room for them both. Connor understood and they kept on as normal.
Juliette began painting more, wanting to sell more paintings so she could save up some money. While she didn't tell Connor why, he realized they were spending less and less time together. It wasn't Juliette's intent, but soon they never saw each other on the weekends. They had the occasional dinner after work, but that was about it.
Juliette realized how much she missed Connor, but knew that there was no future for them if she couldn't make enough money to add an actual bedroom to her house. She thought the land would be perfect for them, because they could build their home together and raise their family there. She was determined to make that happen and not have to break down to Connor, where he would have them living in his house with his brother. Not that Juliette had a problem with his brother, but she wanted a family compound they could create together. She's an artist after all.

After months of no time with Connor, Juliette had enough to add a bedroom and a window to her house. She also got a promotion at the school and splurged on a stove. It had taken her much longer than she thought, but it the end it was worth it. It was only a basic shell, but together her and Connor could create the perfect home for them.
The day the renovations to the house were complete, Juliette called Connor and asked him over for the weekend. This would be the first time he'd been over to stay for a while, versus just coming to pick her up. Before this, there wasn't room for more than one person in the house.
And being Connor, he came right away. After Juliette admitted to what she'd been doing on their weekends apart and apologizing for brushing him to the side, she told him why she had done it. Connor was flabbergasted and gave her a toe curling kiss to show her he understood why she did it all.
After that kiss, there was only one thing left for Juliette to do....

Of course Connor said yes! Who wouldn't after all Juliette had done for them to be together. They spent the rest of the day cuddling and planning their wedding. They took the week after that to look into venues, but got a shock as they realized how much they would need to save to have a wedding all of their friends and family could come too.
It took a lot of hard work, a lot of sold paintings, and a lot of not upgrading the house....but Juliette and Connor didn't want to wait long to be married. And so it was six months later that they had enough to plan the party.
Juliette picked out her dress, while Connor chose his suit. They had settled on a beach wedding, just off the shoreline. So light colors were used to decorate everything. A pavilion was put up over the tables, chairs, and buffet table. A wedding arch was placed, with chairs surrounding it. Petals were strewn about the short isle, the guests came, and so did the couple.
Many tears were shed looking over their wedding album.....

Married life was wonderful. Using the money from their wedding gifts and the left over savings, they were able to start work on their home right away. They worked during the day, made modifications to the house at night, and spent the weekends enjoying married life.
In their spare time Juliette worked on brushing up her painting skills, while Connor wrote his novels on the side of his journalism work. They slowly added items and space to their house. While it wasn't the quality they wanted, they were slowly upgrading.

As you can see with Connor's latest promotion and his royalties from his books, they were able to use the original rooms as a Master Suite and add an open living area to the house. Since they were financially stable, Juliette and Connor agreed it was time for her to quit her job and start in the painting profession, especially since her paintings were selling at such high prices.
Juliette took to staying at home for work, like a duck to water. She spent her mornings cleaning, her afternoons working on paintings, and her evenings cooking for Connor. After dinner she would put away leftovers and read or watch tv, while Connor wrote articles, interviews, and his novels.
They were robbed at one point and realized they needed to buy a burglar alarm. Luckily they woke up in time to call the police, but that was not a event they wanted to repeat if possible. And so they contracted a alarm company as soon as they could afford that. At this point they were saving to make additions on the house so they could have a family and sadly this set that back a little bit.
Juliette was climbing the business ladder as a well known painter now. Between opportunities on the sides and bonuses from selling her paintings, they were tucking quiet a bit away. Not to mention Connor's opportunities to write biographies on some of their friends bringing in some very nice royalties. They started on the additions to their home right around Connor's birthday. They were hoping to start a family in a year or so....

However not everything always works out according to plan. As the addition to the house was completed, Juliette learned she was pregnant. True, it was a bit earlier than they thought, but not unwelcome. She told Connor right away and he was thrilled! They started making plans for the baby right away.
The time went by and plans pulled together. Since they weren't sure if they were having a boy or a girl, they had to go with a nursery that would suit either sex. Juliette painted the nursery herself and handpicked the fabrics and lights in the room. It was the first time they'd bought top of the line items, nothing was too good for this baby.

Although to be honest, Juliette was hoping for a girl to continue her legacy....
